When I view a painting,
I picture a blank canvas,
Place myself within the painter,
And behold brushing each stroke,
To rekindle the feeling,
As offered by a soul,
One day some years ago.

When I listen to a piece of music,
I look upon silence,
Place myself within the musician,
And conceive composing each note,
To reabsorb the mood,
Held somewhere in the midst,
Of souls that come and go.

When I read a poem,
I envision a blank page,
Place myself within the poet,
And imagine writing each word,
To recapture the inspiration,
As welcomed by a soul,
One day as if today.

When I do I am awed,
Sure that I am in touch,
If only for a moment,
With a power that transcends life,
With the essence that unites us all.
